Who We Are

Women Together Period, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to tackling period poverty in the north Georgia mountains.

We invite you to meet our Executive Director and our Board of Directors:

Emilyn Slemons – Executive Director

Emilyn Slemons was shocked when she discovered that some women couldn’t afford menstrual products. As someone who menstruates, Emilyn has always had the supplies she needs to manage her period. She wants to reduce the risk of mental and physical harm on women caused by not having access to necessary menstrual products. She is passionate about breaking down barriers, stereotypes, and the stigma surrounding menstruation. Emilyn thinks that no one should be faced with the decision of buying pads or buying food for themselves or their families. Period.

Emilyn is enrolled in the Honors Program at the University of North Georgia, where she is majoring in history. She loves to create art, write stories, spend time with her family (including her rabbits), and engage in conversation over a cup of coffee. She is passionate about social justice and loves to be involved in “good trouble.”

Teri Slemons – President

Teri Slemons serves as President of the Board of Women Together Period. A certified public accountant with an MBA in finance and entrepreneurship from the University of Georgia, Teri has worked in public accounting, banking, and the nonprofit sector. More importantly, she is Emilyn’s mom. When Emilyn expressed her desire to help women and combat period poverty, Teri was delighted to support her daughter and join in her work to assist women.

Teri is a charter member of Cherry Log Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and has served the church in many roles, including youth group leader and teacher.

Teri and her husband Alan reside in the north Georgia mountains. In her spare time, Teri enjoys writing, reading, and cooking for her family. She is also one of the loudest moms cheering at her kids’ sporting events.

Michelle Hargreaves – Vice President

Michelle Hargreaves lives in Missouri and holds a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Her teaching experience includes secondary science and theatre with the Christian Academy of Greater St. Louis. Currently, she works with Western Governors University as a program mentor, helping students become elementary educators. In addition, she volunteers with International Bible Teaching Ministries.

Jane Kimzey – Secretary

Jane Kimzey serves as Secretary of the volunteer Board of Women Together Period.

She is a graduate of the University of Georgia. She retired to Fannin County after a career divided between teaching and management work in American Red Cross and March of Dimes.

Jane is, technically, a Georgia native; being from a military family, however, she has lived world-wide in Japan, Germany, and Argentina. “Even in retirement, travel is in my blood,” said Jane. “I love seeing the world with my husband. And when we travel, we generally ‘live’ in an area rather than just sight see,” she said.

She is a member of Cherry Log Christian Church and serves on the board of Feed Fannin and Family Connections.

Monica Ledford – Treasurer

Monica Ledford grew up in the mountains of north Georgia and currently resides in Cherry Log, GA.  Monica is married to Tracy Ledford and has one son and two stepchildren. She is an ordained minister, currently serving as Senior Minister for Cherry Log Christian Church.  Her background includes owning and operating a successful medical equipment company, along with working for the Georgia Department of Public Health as a Billing Specialist.  She has also held various management positions in the private sector.

Monica’s lifelong passion has always been to help find solutions for those who could benefit from a hand up. She has been involved in numerous feeding ministries, including serving as director of a church food pantry and overseeing outreach ministries organized for feeding day laborers and men in recovery. Her role as Treasurer of Women Together Period, Inc. is just another outlet that offers opportunities to help improve the lives of others as we work to eliminate period poverty, removing barriers that often prevent young women from being involved and active in everyday life.

Kristi Morgan Mulchahey-Johnson, MD – Board Member

Dr. Mulchahey-Johnson’s medical career as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist has been in both the academic and the private practice of medicine, focusing in Adolescent and Pediatric Gynecology.  She is thrilled to serve on the Board of Woman Together Period as it addresses the essential problem of period poverty in her beloved second home of the North Georgia Mountains.  Period poverty is a greatly neglected aspect of menstrual health, which is becoming known as one of the important “vital signs” of the overall health of a young woman.

Dr. Mulchahey-Johnson trained at Emory University, the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and the University of California-San Francisco.  She has served on the staff of both the Children’s Hospital of Alabama and the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta as a Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist.   Although not practicing at present due to disability, she is thankful for continued opportunities to serve children and teens through her church and Girl Scouts.  She is especially proud of Emilyn and her skill and wisdom in founding and running Woman Together, Period.  She first met Emilyn as a toddler at church and had the privilege of being her first Sunday school teacher.
